Policy on Accessibility

ITS periodically scans the CWRL's domain with Watchfire WebXM, an accessibility checker that automatically flags accessibility problems. It then reports problems to the CWRL.

Procedures for Instructors / Staffers
If one of your pages is flagged, the ADs will coordinate with you to bring the page up to code using the following procedure:

  1. The CWRL will forward the accessibility report to the page's author, along with information on making websites accessible. ADs will offer individualized help if necessary.
  2. After 7 days, the CWRL will then rescan the page with WebXM or WebXact.
    1. If the author has taken no action, the CWRL will issue a warning and allow 3 more days to comply.
    2. If the author has taken action but the page is still noncompliant, an AD will offer individualized help.
    3. If the page is noncompliant after the 3-day grace period, the CWRL will disable it or replace it with a text-only version until the page is made compliant.

Procedures for AD consultations
When offering accessibility assistance to staffers with non-complaint pages, the ADs will:

  1. Set up a one-hour session with the staffer to work on accessibility together. This session is to take place within a week of the non-compliance report.
  2. Ensure that by the end of the help session, all accessibility issues have been successfully corrected. If that cannot be accomplished within one session, a follow-up session will be arranged.
  3. If non-compliance issues are so drastic as to require more than two help sessions, ADs will encourage the staffer to adopt one of the CWRL templates and will use the help session to assist in implementing it.
All help sessions will be conducted during ADs office hours or by appointment.
