I am going to do my website

I am going to do my website project on RFID and upcoming applications, dangers, and things of that nature. Sorry I took so long to post, I forgot about it. I am still working on all of the little details for the project.

I'd like to do my website on

I'd like to do my website on the the future of Electronic Medical Record Systems.
I have worked closely in helping develop software for the past 1/2 year. I look forward to sharing how technological advances in medicine will change the doctor/patient relationship and also make an attempt to close the digital gap.

Website Proposal

The topic that I would like to explore with my Website project is the Sony Rootkit DRM issue.

In the site I will look at the ethics, motivation, and methodology of Sony's DRM technology and examine the implications of such technologies as we enter into a time where more and more of these sorts of things are going to be out on the market.

Possible sources of information are the blog of the original person to discover this technology, Slashdot articles, and other such news sources.

Website Topic

The topic I want to explore for my website project is cyberterrorism. As our society becomes more and more connected and integrated with technology, the threat from cyberterrorists will become more important and have wider reaching effects. Being such a broad topic, I will begin by presenting a history of cyberterrorism, then I will look at the sociopolitics of why 'black hat hackers' do what they do, the ways that cyberterrorism can directly and indirectly affect you, and the proactive steps being taken to defend against cyberterrorism. Most sites that I have found that offer a similar approach to looking at the issues related to cyberterrorism are usually quite dates (5+ years old). Technology evolves very quickly and new forms of cyberterrorism can crop up. I hope to provide an up to date look at these threats and responses.

Examples of sources that I've found and can be used for this website are:

Kevin Mitnik's new book: The Art of Intrusion

I would like to investigate the many online forums created for music production. DJ Forums have grown into very informative sites with loads of information for curious onlookers as well as performing professionals. The range of topics discussed goes from product reviews to actual DJ scratch and mix battles. I will attempt to compile summaries of the valuable information I find, and provide access to some of the exceptionally interesting topics on these forums. The aim of my site is to be a resource for anybody interested in learning more about music production on the web.

Video Games

As a sort of extension of my work in FFXI for the VC Report, I plan to use the website project to report on more general areas of the gaming world as a whole. I've been gaming for years and in the last two years have developed a big interest in academic study of game communities.

Some themes I want to work with are the notions of online community as found in MMORPGs and maybe First-Person Shooters; RL bleed-over, some good and some bad; and a look at backlash, including some recent attempts through legislation and litigation to curtail game development.

Websites I may use include Game Politics, which is a blog whose topic is obvious, the site for a gaming institute in the Netherlands, and Allakhazam.com.

Non-HTML sources include a recent NY Times article and ... something else -- which I'm still trying to find.

Brain Wetware

For my website project, I would like to present information on different brain implants that are currently under development to treat different disorders. While I was researching for my individual presentation on the BrainGate microchip that allows the brain to communicate with computers, I found other brain microchip implants that would aid people with memory loss, depression, paralysis, and deafness. However, these new technologies are leading the way towards merging body and machine to give people superhuman abilities.

I have chosen to do my website on the verichip. This will be a spin off from my Individual Presentation Report. Since there is a lot of information regarding the verichip, I thought it would be good to compile many resources together and give a brief portfolio of articles detailing the benefits and issues associated with the verichip. Thanks. Angela

My Website

I have chosen to do my website project on "Linux Live". Linux Live is an operating system on a CD. You don't have to download or install this software on your computer. All you have to do is simply run it. When your computer starts up, the user should press F12(if using a pc) and boot from the CD-Rom drive. Linux is an alternative OS from Windows. It has the same features as Windows, but the names are quite different. Some potential sub-topics I will explore are the different types of "Linux Live" Operating Systems and the differences between them, the advantages and disadvantages of having a CD operating system, and how much the OS is used in the present and possibly the future.

Cloning

The topic I have chosen is cloning. Something all of us have heard about genetic identical twin or clone I feel is an important subject and will be for a long time. Cloning also pertains to many of the topics we have discussed in class such as identity and cyberculture. Some of the sub-topics i'll explore in my website are cloning laws, human cloning, the history and the future of cloning. Afgen.com and ornl.gov are some of the sites that I will be using in my research. I will be giving a more in depth look in my sub-topics and will also have information from various sources.

I would like to explore smart mobs with my website project. Smart mobs is the concept that evolving communication technologies will empower the public. The concept was introduced by Henry Rheingold in his book "Smart Mobs: The Next Social Revolution." I am actually taking another class right now where we are discussing smart mobs and that is how I got the idea. You can currently see smart mobs in action all across the globe, but recently it has arisen in France with the riots occuring there. As for sub-topics, this information is relatively new to me, but I would imagine a couple would be the different types of smart mobs and how they function, what technologies are used, and what effect it the smart mobs actually have. Some source I have accumulated online and off are:
-Henry Rheingold's book
-Wikipedia online ecnyclopedia has some great sources
-Wired magazine articles (online and paper)
-Rheingold.com has a blog that seems promising
That's what I have found so far, but I know there is much more to be found. What I want to delve into, that these sites do not is what effect these smart mobs have on the technology that empowers them.

The Impact of the Internet on Audio and Video Media

This web site would look at how the paradigm has shifted for both audio and video media. The Internet has become the new playground or killing field for media companies. Some of the topics that will be covered are: Podcasting, Streaming Video, Broadcast Television, Music Downloads, Movies on the Internet, History, Current Environment and Future Directions.

Just some of the websites that have already been useful and I believe will be useful in researching this topic include:
www.atomfilms.com
www.ifilm.com
www.cbsnews.com
www.ipodder.org
www.podcastalley.com

There are two possibilities for website topics that I am working on - the first is cctv monitor biometric smart card video capture software. Some information on this subject can be found on the following webpage: http://www.video-insight.com/productsoverview.htm

This is an off-shoot of my individual presentation concerning biometric smart cards or.... i would like to explore more about podcasters but I have not yet looked into that extensively so I will likely go with the first choice. sb

Mesh Networks

Mesh Networks are a proposed way to build the next-generation internet free of any corporate control or possible censorship. However they rely on scarce radio spectrum and are hindered by the current bandwidth limitations on wifi equipment. If the Austin wireless city project were able to transition to a mesh network, users could get service anywhere in the city and many small scale installations would not require any upstream broadband connection.

simulacra in the matrix

for my website project, i'd like to explore baudrillard's simulcra in the movie the matrix. only the first one though, because the others were terrible.

there are other websites that explore this idea but none are easily navigable nor very thorough. examples include: http://whatisthematrix.warnerbros.com/rl_cmp/new_phil_fr_hanley2.html and http://www.uta.edu/english/apt/collab/texts/hollywood.html
both of these pages are just straight text which is somewhat tedious for readers.

a few of my subtopics include a summary of the matrix, an explanation of simulacra (with other subtopics such as examples, quotes, etc.), and pointing out specific scenes in the matrix in which the concept of simulacra is represented.

Website Topic Proposal

The topic I would like to explore with my website project is "Artists and Computer Technology", specifically the way computer technology has changed the ways artists create and display art. My current familiarity with the topic comes from simply having an interest in art which I largely explore over the internet.

Subtopics I would like to address include the use of computer technology in the creation of art, the use of computers and the internet in the presentation of art, and the places where art and computer technology merge.

Online sites include "DeviantArt", a community of artist/bloggers, where I expect to find good examples of the way the internet has changed the ways people present their art. Online reports from CNN, etc. of innovations like the virtual "Body-Brush" also should provide insight and examples. Digital Art communities like "GFXartist" ought to also provide examples over all the subcategories of the topic.

GPS

For the website project, I would like to investigate GPS (Global Positioning System), an amazingly accurate satellite navigation system. I am fascinated by its influence on public and private life; GPS is a highly complicated and intricate technology that is being applied in new and innovative ways.

In the project, I will discuss the history of GPS and how the technology developed for government use. I will explore how errors and "jamming" can occur with GPS technology and how researchers strive to avoid these problems. I will also look at how GPS shifted from government to private use. I hope to explain the different uses of GPS technology and how it is used in everyday life, from helping the visually impaired to recording earthquakes.

One website I have found is an overview of GPS technology by Peter H. Dana, a geography professor at UT. While his website seems helpful, it is poorly organized, a little ugly, and not very readable. It has lots of interesting links, but aesthetically, it's a bit of a disappointment.

Another website, Navstar, is about the Navstar GPS system, a U.S. Dept. of Defense project. I hope Navstar will provide some interesting information about government uses of GPS.

I also have a copy of Wired Magazine that discusses the application of GPS technology and where it's headed in the coming years.

Website Topic

The topic I want to explore on my website is "Building an effective website for an organization." I am interested in this because, over the past year, I have re-vamped the website for an organziation in which I am a member.

I would like to explore planning a website, designing a website and usability.

Many sites give advice for design, but I want to delve deeper into fucntionality for organizational members. How do members of the organization, not just web-surfers, use the site and how can this be made a more functional and rewarding experience?

I have found several websites as well as print publications that I plan to use:

Online - a site by Coyote Communications on "Web Development and Maintenance for Mission-Based Organizations," a site on "12 Design Decisions you need to make," and a site on Network for Good on "How to create a website for your organization."

Print: I have a book on Homepage Usability and one on Dreamweaver that explains web development strategies.
