The 24th ACM International Conference on Design of Communication will be held in Myrtle Beach, SC on Oct. 18-20, 2006. Participants are encouraged to submit research papers and workshop proposals concerning processes, methods, and technologies for communicating and designing communication artifacts such as printed documents, online text, and hypermedia applications.
Research on information gathering and design, and on software and systems documentation, has come to a new era. Concepts and approaches from emerging disciplines, such as user experience study, genre analysis, software engineering, data mining, and documentation clustering have altered the landscape of the communications design field. To meet this vast challenge, multidisciplinary and systematic approaches to information design and software documentation are required.
SIGDOC 2006 will provide an opportunity for the exchange of information related to cutting-edge research and empirical results in areas such as (but not limited to):
* Information design and multidisciplinary approaches, including new challenges in total user experience design
* Program redocumentation for distributed systems and aspect-oriented applications
* Integrating software engineering and document engineering
* Agile documentation processes for information design
* Genre and discourse analyses of information design and delivery
* Personalized information systems, gaming, and digital entertainment revolutions
Submission Process
SIGDOC 2006 will include technical papers and participatory workshops. Research papers or experience reports should not exceed 5,000 words (approximately 8 pages in ACM Press format, including figures and references). The results described must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. Workshop proposals should not exceed 1,000 words. The proposal should describe the workshop’s theme, leader(s), structure, expected length, and participant selection criteria. Submission instructions can be found on the conference Web site.
Authors will be notified of acceptance by August 4, 2006. Final versions of technical papers and workshop descriptions are due by September 1, 2006. Acceptance for publication is contingent on registration for the conference. (In the case of multiple authors, at least one must register.) If you can’t attend the conference, a publication fee equivalent to the event registration will be charged.
Conference Location
The conference will be held in Coastal Carolina University, South Carolina – just nine miles from the Atlantic coastal resort of Myrtle Beach.
